John Goto...

John Goto was born in Stockport uk in 1949. He is a well known artist that takes strange photo's such as landscapes and combines them to make one unusual image. In the late 60's Goto studied Fine art at St. Martin's school of art in London where he found a liking for the medium of photography. In 1977 he made a group of culturally significant portraits of young people in Lewisham in south London entitled "Lovers Of Rock" which were not published until 2012.

Lovers of rock images...

These photo's remind of how society was more racist in the 1970's i think goto tried to take photographs of the things that are wrong in the world and what need to change.

In the 80's Goto began work that combined painting and drawing with his photography. laying the groundwork for his later practice with computer. His first work was "Terezin" which was inspired by a story of a bauhaus trained artiest interned in the Nazi transit camp of Theresienstadt.

He then began doing work initiated "The Atomic Yard" It was inspired by the different cultures in the 50's when Britain was set within the highly aestheticised domestic surrounding of kettles yard in Cambridge.

His next exhibition was intitaled "the scar" and was made in response to the collapse of specialist regimes in eastern Europe in the late 80's

Ukadia

In 1997 Goto began i new style of photography and art inspired

by the life and culture in Britain during the new labor years when
Tony Blair was prime minister of the uk. It comprises "capital arcade"
set in the fictional shopping mall "high summer".

capital arcade ....

Im not that fond of his capital arcade work it looks like as if he has taken a picture of a shopping center and had cut out pictures of people and just placed them on top of the picture.
I like the high summer photo so much more i think they look more realistic and more thought out.

high summer

I really like his High summer work i think is is really creative and is different to a lot of photographers and artists out there. I like how he uses well known landmarks and adds bright people and animals into make it looks dream like and unreal.

Guilt city

I think guilt city is completely different to high summer and capital arcade there are much more darker colours unlike in the other two and it looks more like a everyday scene even tho he has still used different images to make the final image.

21st century

New world circus...

I think this is a lot different to his other work such of the early work such as the lovers of rock images these is a lot of things going on in these photo's and some a quite funny but also really sinister at the same time.

West end blues

This remind me of his guilty city work but instead of just using people he's just used there silhouettes.

They remind me of people from the 40's put into a modern day city
i really like these because they look negative and because you can see there faces or any color it makes you use your imagination.
